Did you save my life?
When I was 8 or 9 years old, I almost drowned. Someone saved my life and I don’t know who. Was it you?
It was Seventh Day Adventist summer camp at Pine Springs Ranch, in Southern California. The year was either 1980 or 1981. It was hot (105F) and everyday we went to the pool. But I didn't know how to swim, so I had to stay in the shallow end. All the other kids could swim and everyday had fun together in the deep end, jumping off the diving board. So at some point during the week, I disliked being “less than” and left out so much that, when no one was looking, I went to the deep end, jumped in, and started drowing.
I think I would have drowned except a girl my age reached down and pulled me me out (no lifeguard ever came). I don't know who that person was.
